Love Your Melon Campus Crew
This is a reflection on my time being a part of the Love Your Melon Campus Crew.
I have been a part of UC Love Your Melon since August of 2016. Because of my work at Cincinnati Children's Hospital on the hematology/ oncology unit, I found out about this awesome company and decided I needed to be a part of it. I had seen pictures of celebrities with the beanies on Instagram and other forms of social media, but now I was seeing it at work everyday and the impact the company has on my patients. Originally, I wanted to create my own campus crew because I did not know that UC already had one, but with some research I found the UC LYM campus crew and emailed the executives members about my interest. I was a part of the crew as a volunteer until December 2016, and then I was made a part of the 20 person crew team. As a member of the crew, you are supposed to be at every meeting, help plan/ attend events with individual kids, help plan/ run Be the Match events on campus, and help plan/ attend donation events at Cincinnati Children's Hospital.
Because I work with CBDI kids at Cincinnati Children's Hospital, I was a great resource for the campus crew because I was able to get in touch with the CBDI child life specialists whenever I was at work to help plan events at the hospital. I was also able to drop off poster and cards we made for the playroom on the unit whenever I went into work. Lastly, I was also familiar with a lot of the nonprofit organizations that work with our patients and be able to point the executive members of the team in certain directions. For example, I knew of the Bold and Brave Kids Foundation through my work at the hospital, and the executives were able to coordinate events with the people at the Bold and Brave Kids Foundation.
During my time on the campus crew I have attended meetings, made cards for LYM superheroes (the nickname we give the patients we support), participated in marketing for the company, dropped off posters for the hematology/ oncology playroom at Cincinnati Children's Hospital, volunteered during two Be the Match events held on campus, attend two individuals events with superheroes at Build-A-Bear and The Cone, attended a donation event at Cincinnati Children's Hospital, and much more. I cannot wait to continue to support the company even after I am no longer a part of the UC campus crew.
This is my artifact from my time on the UC LYM Campus Crew. This is a compilation of pictures from different LYM events I have attended. We are not always allowed to take pictures of the patients, but we do have a lot of photos from other events.
