“Just enjoy where you are now”
I could not sleep I was so excited to leave for the international clinical trip to Quito, Ecuador. After little sleep and what seemed like a forever car ride to the airport, our flight took off from Cincinnati to Atlanta at 2:30 in the afternoon. We met as a group in the lobby of CVG, and basically skipped (due to all the excitement) all the way through security to our gate. We arrived in Atlanta with what was supposed to be a 2 hour layover. However, the plane was delayed, and the layover ended up being 3 hours. My friends and I passed the time by eating as many appetizers as possible at the TGI Friday’s in the Atlanta airport. We boarded the plane from Atlanta to Quito at 7:00. I was a little nervous for this plane ride because I have never flown internationally before. I was not sure what to expect, and I did not know how I would do on a plane ride that was over 2 hours long. However, I was able to get the window seat for this flight, and I spent a good majority of time looking out the window as we flew over Florida, Cuba, and Panama. We arrived in Quito at 11:30 (central time), and we waited in the customs line for at least an hour. Rowan and Michelle from Timmy Global Health were waiting for us in the airport, and we then got on the bus to go to the Centro Leonidas Proaño AKA The Centro. After arriving at The Centro, we unloaded all our luggage from the bus and picked rooms inside our “casas.” Each casa was divided up into 2 bathrooms and 4 rooms with 3 people per room. My room was consisted of me, Alli, and Maddy. The other 9 people in our casa were other UC nursing students on the trip with us. After a long day of traveling, we finally were able to go to sleep around 3:00 AM.
